Nicotto Town

England

Unlike the environment I have at home (where most of my neighbors are poor) my enviroment at school is completely different. I go to a small international school with about 70 to 80 students counting from the preschoolers to the high schoolers. It uses an American schooling system, and many `rich' kids come to study. Both my parents wanted me to take decent education which was not available in our neighborhood, and their solution was to make me study in my current school which is a little far from my house even though the school fees are quite expensive.

Most of the students in my school are half foreigners (with a Philipina mother) or pure Philipino. A small percentage of them is pure foreigners like me. Either way, most of the students are `rich', and the reason I go to my school is because, naturally, decent education is given to those who can afford it in Philippines.
Today, I was eating my lunch in the cafeteria with my classmates and there was a group of boys from the elementary section of the school sitting on the table next to us. One of them was a foreigner with brown hair and defined facial features. The Filipino boy was questioning the foreign boy about his country. I heard one of the questions that the Philippino boy was asking.
The foreign boy seemed to be a half-English boy with a Philipina mother, judging from their conversation since the Philippino boy was asking the English boy, "You`re from England, right?"
The next question that the Philippino boy asked made me smile since he was asking the English boy, "If your from England, can you speak Englandish?"
The English boy`s answered "Just because I`m from England, It doesn`t mean I can speak Englandish. Plus, I only went there once,"

I had a hard time keeping myself from laughing at the cute mistake they made!

I used to be unsure about writing my blogs in English since I thought that would seem out of place and arrogant in this Japanese community network but seeing the SESS members writing their blog in English, I was able to be more open. I guess I'll start writing my blog in English now and then. I'm so glad I was able to meet the SESS members! I really appreciate your checking my blogs as well!

I laughed a lot too. They must have been serious when they talked. :D

I'm happy to find you started writing your blog in English.
I'll drop by from time to time. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with me! I found your story rather hilarious. It must have been a little awkward when the teacher asked the question!

I must have given you a wrong idea! Well, those boys were just sharing about their countries, and I personally find that there is nothing wrong in being proud of your country. I am proud of mine as well! The English boy was just genuinely answering to the questions that the filippino boy was asking him. In fact I didn't find anything arrogant about him. I must say that his mistake was rather unavoidable if he didn't know that English was his country's national language! Lol

A cute boy (^-^).

I had a funny experience at an interview for my daughter's high shool entrance examination.
Japanese schools usually have writing test and interview test.
The interview is between teachers and students at high school.
Schools my daughter tried required a parent and a student have an interview togegher.

There were two teachers and one on them asked my daughter whether she could write and read Japanese.
Her father is from China, so the teacher asked that question, I think.
She and me were confused a little, because she had just tried English, math and Japanese academid examination.
There was a little silent between us.
Other teacher broke the air "...She has just taken the Japanese test...."
Then we had a big laugh.

Anyway, my daguter enjoyed her three-years high shool life there.
That teacher who asked that question was her favorite teacher.
