School Play

Last week, the roles for our school`s play this year was announced. ~
Usually, I`m the back-stage-person, or simply part of the props-making. I don`t like going in front of people, much less performing in front of a crowd. I stay neutral at school. In fact, too neutral that students from lower grades don`t know I exsist despite how small the school I`m attending is. (70~80 counting from preschoolers to high schoolers)
I though this year was going to be the same as every other years. I would be spending my time in the art room while the others practiced for the play.
However, this year, my mom decided that I was too unsocial and declared that I take part of the play. This year, our school play is `The Rocky Monster Show', which is practically a play about monsters and a crazy scientist. Honestly, I don`t really know the show`s story but I was to take part of it.
I requested the performing arts teacher that I wanted to get a minor role like `pedestrian 1' or `zombie A'. The teacher made me do a audition for one of the characters to see my skills. Most of the upper graders were made to audition without a choice, actually. Since our school is small, the performing arts members need as many extras as possible. Of course I did my best since I wanted the audition to be done in one try. (I wanted to go to the art room fast since my canvas was waiting)
I guess my efforts backfired at me. The role I got was one of the major ones, and undoubtly one of the most corny one. It was a girl zombie(?) named Elsa who, apon being awakened by another boy zombie named Mungo, falls in love with him at first sight. Mungo was assigned to my classmate and one of the only boys in our highschool.
How ironic it was! I just wanted to get a minor role, yet I got one of the major ones! To make matters worse, I was going to sing a song! (My music grades were never impressive)
I read the script and the song made me burst into laughter only to stop aburptly later when I recalled that it was me who was going to sing it. It`s very corny and funny, actually, so I decided I want to share it here:
Title: Guess We`re in Love
Mungo: Well. I`m in love with an ugly girl- I`m in a whirl!
Elsa: And I`m in love with an ugly brute- he`s kinda cute!
Mungo: I can`t get over the ghastliness of you...
Elsa: And I`m a clover- you`re weird enough for two!
Both: Guess we`re in love!
(Dances awkwardly in a cha-cha then tango)
Mungo: Guess we`re in love!
Elsa: Baby we`re in love!
Both: Oh,oh...
Guess we`re in love!
*Since they`re both monsters, their sense of beauty is opposite. (Ugly and ghastly is a compliment to them)
My family seemed enthusiastic about it, but I honestly think I`m not going to make it. I don`t want to ruin the show by doing a awful job in acting, though. I want to at least make it up to some of their expectations. I hope I can do this since I don`t want to embarass myself up onstage!
My biggest concern is that I won`t be able to work on my canvas!!
Thanks. I really hope this play will help me get more confident with myself when I talk in front of people.
I can understand how you feel .
I used to feel awkward to speak or sing in public in my school days,
but I chose a teaching job at high school for some reason.
I'm sure you'll make a significant progress through this performance.
I hope it`ll be enjoyable. If I can`t avoid it, I might as well take it head-on. lol

I`m actually a very unsocial person. I found out recently that my nickname is `the walking dead' for being so inactive every day! I really hope I can get out of my shell using this opportunity.
Oh, I can't belive it!
You are always cheerful and have a pretty chat with us in SESS.
I have thought you are a very active girl.
Anyway, you have got a major role, so just enjoy it!
...I want to see your play, it sounds very fun...love of monsters....
your role major one.... good! lol
just enjoy~
I can`t express myself clearly when it comes to face-to-face conversations. I hope I can become as you say: a social person.
It`s really regrettable that I can`t do my canvas for a while but since I can`t quit the play (the teacher didn`t agree to me quitting), I guess I might as well put my effort on it. I definitely don`t want to embarrass myself!!
So you got the major role, although you wanted a minor one. And you sing songs too!
Oh, Frost, give it a try. If you got something, that means you have to do it and in return, it'll become good experience for you.
The script is sooooo funny! I wish I could see you play "We're in Love". :D
Sorry to hear you won't be able to work on your canvas for a while; you really like drawing!
